  • History

Helvetic Airways was founded in autumn 2003 and began flight operations with one Fokker 100 and three destinations.
In 2004 the airline operated seven planes and the route network was continuously expanded.
As part of financial restructuring of the airline, in March 2006 financier Martin Ebner and his wife Rosmarie acquired all shares in Helvetic Airways AG via the private equity company Patinex AG.
The new aircraft livery was unveiled in December 2006. Since then aircraft have borne the colours red, white and silver-grey, and the Swiss cross on the tail fin. The colours and the cross symbolise the values set forth by Helvetic Airways: quality, cleanliness and safety, which are also contained within the slogan: Swiss through and through. The current collaboration between Helvetic Airways and SWISS International Airlines began in 2007 following the successful IOSA certification.
In light of rapidly expanding air traffic and the increasing demand for pilots, in April 2008 Helvetic Airways entered into an extensive collaboration with the aviation school Horizon Swiss Flight Academy Ltd. In addition to cabin crew training, comprehensive training is offered for private, professional and commercial airline pilots.

In 2011 Helvetic Airways opted for an in-house maintenance company, Helvetic Airways Maintenance, in order to gain autonomy from third parties and to achieve greater flexibility in operations.
Seven new Embraer 190 planes joined the Helvetic Airways fleet in 2014.

In the summer of 2019, a Fokker 100 painted with the Helvetic Airways logo made its final voyage. And that same year the first of 12 new Embraer E2 aircraft on order was delivered. The plane has room for 110 passengers and offers impressively low fuel consumption. Our passengers will enjoy traveling in a spacious, bright cabin. This coupled with unrivaled onboard service guarantees an unforgettable flying experience. The Embraer E190-E2s will replace the current E1 fleet, giving Helvetic Airways one of the most modern and environmentally friendly fleets for the short to medium-haul segment within Europe.

In the summer of 2020, Helvetic Airways announced that it would be changing its order of the 12 Embraer 190-E2 for four larger Embraer E195-E2s. These aircraft offer a good balance of seating capacity, range, fuel consumption and environmentally friendly operation. With a capacity of 120 to 150 passengers, the aircraft has virtually no competition in the medium-haul segment. By operating a uniform fleet with varying seating capacities, Helvetic Airways will be able to continue expanding the flexibility of its operations and its autonomy as a company.
  • HORIZON Swiss Flight Academy

As part of the Helvetic Airways Group, Horizon SFA offers comprehensive training for private and commercial airline pilots, as well as cabin crew training.

Horizon uses a modern training concept with a D-SIM-42 simulator and the DA42 Twin Star for complete training and for individual modules.

Helvetic Airways is offering young Ab Initio pilots a very special opportunity. As part of the Airline Pilot Cadet Program (APCP), new pilots will receive extra support and the certainty that they will be employed following their training. Our goal is to get to know and support prospective colleagues in the early stages of their aviation careers.

Helvetic Airways offers the APCP in cooperation with the Horizon Swiss Flight Academy. On admission to the APCP, the cadets receive a preliminary contract and the opportunity to get to know the company and the operation of our airline.
