Helvetic Airways to fly 2018 Spengler Cup invitees KalPa Kuopio Hockey to Zurich

As Official Airline of the Spengler Cup annual invitational ice hockey tournament, Helvetic will be flying Finnish “Liiga” team KalPa Kuopio Hockey to Zurich to take part. The Swiss-based airline has been a Silver Partner of the world’s oldest and most reputed international club ice hockey competition since 2016.

The quarter-finalists in the latest “Liiga” season will fly from Kuopio to Zurich on 26 December and will return to Kuopio on 31 December. Both flights will be operated with a Helvetic Embraer E190 aircraft.

The flights will also feature culinary creations that have been concocted specifically for the athletes in collaboration with LSG Sky Chefs. On the southbound flight to Zurich the special guests will be served a light meal of teriyaki beef with pasta, accompanied by fresh fruit. For the return flight home, though, the KalPa Kuopio Hockey party can look forward to a totally Swiss inflight food experience: a starter of potato salad with Grisons air-dried beef, followed by a main course of Zürcher Geschnetzeltes mit Rösti (thin-sliced veal in a creamy mushroom sauce, served with hash browns). The meal will be rounded off with a baked apple mousse and the traditional Helvetic Hüppen from local Lake Zurich confectioner Straumann.

“Helvetic is a byword for Swissness and Swiss quality in European air travel,” says Marc Gianola, President of the Spengler Cup Organizing Committee. “Our aims are just as high with our Spengler Cup in Davos. We also want to offer a Swiss product that meets international expectations far beyond Switzerland’s borders. What Helvetic is to aviation, the Spengler Cup Davos is to ice hockey. And that’s why, as partners, we’re so excellently suited.”

For this 92nd Spengler Cup, Helvetic will be making its presence felt not only in the air but also on the ground in Davos. For the third year running, the Swiss airline will be providing specially-made aircraft seats for the Vaillant Arena’s penalty boxes, to offer their temporary occupants a little extra comfort before they return to the ice.

Helvetic guests aloft will enjoy a new cabin product from September 2019. With the entry into service of its advanced new Embraer E190-E2s, the airline will be setting new benchmarks on European routes in space, comfort and ergonomics terms.

Swiss regional airline Helvetic Airways provides a range of short- and medium-haul air services from various Swiss airports. The carrier deploys its Embraer E190-E2, E195-E2 and E190-E1 aircraft on scheduled, charter and wet-lease flights. At least six Helvetic Airways Embraer E190-E2s and E195-E2s are being operated in winter 2023/24 and summer 2024 on behalf of Swiss International Air Lines in summer 2023 under a long-term wet-lease agreement.

The Helvetic Airways workforce numbers over 510 employees. The company also has its own maintenance hangar and operation at Zurich Airport, which is further home to its corporate head office. The airline offers innovative part-time employment models to its cockpit and cabin personnel. For its cabin attendants these include ‘Ski&Fly’, ‘Fly&Study’ and the fully flexible ‘Fly your way’ model. Details of current vacancies at Helvetic will be found at career.helvetic.com.
