Helvetic Airways certified for aircraft maintenance
Since 27 November, Helvetic Airways has been running its own line maintenance operation in Hangar F at Zurich airport. The "Maintenance" project came to a successful conclusion last week with the BAZL audit and EASA-145 certification. "With this extension of the value creation chain, we have achieved the autonomy and greater flexibility in operating our Fokker 100 fleet that we were aiming for", explains Bruno Jans, CEO of Helvetic Airways.
The recruitment of 35 specialists, aircraft mechanics, engineers and avionics technicians was completed within four months. Helvetic Airways now employs 180 staff (aircrew: 117; back office: 28; maintenance: 35).
Swiss regional airline Helvetic Airways has been offering a range of short- and medium-haul services from Swiss airports since 2006. The airline operates Embraer E190-E2, E195-E2, E190 and E195 aircraft on scheduled, charter and wet-lease flights. Under a long-term wet-lease agreement, up to 15 Helvetic Airways aircraft operate on behalf of Swiss International Air Lines.
Helvetic Airways employs around 600 people. The company also has its own maintenance hangar at its corporate headquarters at Zurich Airport, staffed by around 60 aircraft mechanics.
